CEAT, CVM/IAS, and CAFS collaborate to discuss UPLB Online Library Services
The University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) – College of Engineering and Agro-Industrial Technology (CEAT), College of Veterinary Medicine/Institute of Animal Science (CVM/IAS) & College of Agriculture and Food Science (CAFS) library held its first online collaboration webinar entitled “Is it Worth a Try? A Guide to Online Library Services” on 28 Feb. 2022 via Zoom and streamed via Facebook.
This activity is intended to ignite the curiosity of library users while boosting the social media visibility of each library. The session objectives were 1) to familiarize the audience with the different online services offered by the libraries, 2) for the audience to learn the significance of each online service available, and 3) to maximize the use of the libraries even with the online and distance learning modality.
Ms. Adelina M. Esperante, Head Librarian of CVM/IAS-CAFS, welcomed all the participants and stressed that UPLB libraries are doing their best in providing excellent and innovative library programs such as the event. She also assured the participants that librarians are always ready and willing to help with their queries.
The highlight of the event was the discussion by the library staff on how to use and utilize Online Library Services such as the OpenAthens, Turnitin Account, and the iLib Account (Integrated Library System) – the union catalog of the UPLB library’s collection.
Some topics also discussed are the Tutorials to Online Databases, Online Article Request, Online Reference Request, and other Online portals.
An overview of the database subscription unique to the college was also discussed such as the Knovel – Engineering Data and Technical References, CELPh Portal – Digital Resources for the Consortium of Engineering Libraries, and the IEEE Explore.
The event also promoted Valerie and Levi, the Virtual Reference Assistants of CEAT and CVM/IAS-CAFS library.
The VRAs were conceptualized to break the mundane in answering online inquiries of the constituents.
The program ended with the closing remarks delivered by Ms. Lina C. Copioso, the Head Librarian of CEAT (Estefa Macasojot & Jho-Ann F. Retamal).
